Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. The largest flare was a B2.0 class flare from NOAA Active Region (AR) 2592 which peaked at 19:48 UT yesterday. Three other small ARs remain on the visible disk which have shown low levels of activity. Previously active AR 2591 has now moved over the West solar limb. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. No Earth directed CMEs were detected. No significant flare events expected today. X-ray flux is expected to remain below C level. The solar wind speed has increased from around 330 to 400 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has increased from around 5 nT to 10 nT. The Bz component has oscillated between positive and negative, fluctuating between +5 and -10 nT being mainly negative from 12:00 UT yesterday. Geomagnetic conditions were ranged between Kp index 1-3 (NOAA) and local K index 1-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. A negative polarity coronal hole located close to the central latitudes created enhanced solar wind speeds at Earth due to its associated high-speed stream (HSS), which are expected to persist throughout the day and may enhance geomagnetic activity. As a consequence the geomagnetic activity is expected to be slightly enhanced today and again later in the week.
