Bulletin

A new sunspot group, Catania 9 (NOAA AR 1776) emerged at 15N near the central meridian. It is active in the C-level. An C8.4 flare was monitored on June 19, 9:54UT peak time. The source region is however still behind the east limb. SDO/AIA 193 offers a nice view on the source region. On June 18, we see stretched loops high in the corona that break open, the eruption is followed by post flare loops that seem to be captivated in a bulb structure. CACTus reported 2 coronal mass ejections from that region. We keep an eye on it. The geomagnetic conditions are quiet: the solar wind speed is around 300 km/s and the total magnetic field around 5nT. Active conditions are possible from June 21 if the fast solar wind from the northern coronal hole reaches the Earth.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 082, based on 21 stations.
