Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been very low. The largest flare was a B6.5 class flare, produced by NOAA Active Region (AR) 2526 (Macintosh class:Hsx; Mag. type:Alpha), peaking at 15:00 UT yesterday. ARs 2524 (Eso; Beta) and 2526 have both remained stable with evidence of small amounts of flux emergence in HMI observations. A large filament channel is currently extending from the Southeast to solar disk center, but appears stable. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a low probability of C-class flares. The solar wind speed has decreased from around 550 to 350 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 2 nT and 5 nT. The Bz component was largely positive, fluctuating between -2 and +2 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 0-1 (NOAA) and local K index 0-2 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. There is currently a positive polarity Northern polar coronal hole with a large extension to lower latitudes in the Western hemisphere, as this region rotates further West the resulting high-speed stream (HSS) should enhance solar wind speeds at the Earth and as a consequence may increase geo-activity levels in the next 12 to 24 hours.
