Solar flaring activity remains very low, without any C-class or even B-class flares reported during last 24 hours. We expect a low level of the flaring activity to persist in the coming hours. A partial halo CME was detected in the SOHO/LASCO C2 field of view at 15:24 UT, on April 30. The CME had angular width of about 190 degrees and the projected plane of the sky speed of about 500 km/s (as reported by the CACTUS software). The partial halo CME was a subsequent event, following the narrower CME, originating from the same source region. The partial halo CME was associated with the EIT wave and the coronal dimming, and its source region was close to the east solar limb as seen by STEREO A. As seen from the Earth this was a back side event and it will not arrive at the Earth.
The Earth is still inside the slow solar wind with the speed of about 330 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is slightly elevated and it amounts about 9 nT. The fast solar wind associated with the negative polarity equatorial coronal hole, which reached central meridian in the early morning of April 28, is expected to arrive to the Earth late this evening or in the morning of May 02. The geomagnetic conditions are presently quiet, and we expect such a geomagnetic conditions to continue in the coming hours. The expected arrival of the fast solar wind could cause unsettled to possibly active geomagnetic conditions starting from about midnight today.
