The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the past 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels.
The Earth is currently under the influence of a slow solar wind regime. The solar wind speed has fluctuated around 320 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 2 nT and 5 nT. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -5 and +4 nT, and has been negative for most of the morning (as recorded by ACE). A recurrent equatorial coronal hole of negative polarity is now facing Earth. The effect of the high-speed streams coming from this coronal hole is expected to enhance the solar wind early on August 27.
Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 0-2 (NOAA) and local K index 1-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. A recurrent equatorial coronal hole of negative polarity is now facing Earth. The effect of the high-speed stream coming from this coronal hole is expected to enhance solar wind conditions at Earth early on August 27. Last rotation, this coronal hole did not produce major enhancements in the solar wind conditions (solar wind speed remained below 600 km/s and the total interplanetary magnetic field was below 10 nT). However, enhanced solar wind conditions may be experienced this rotation.
