The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the past 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels. There is a currently a large low latitude coronal hole approaching the central meridian of the Sun.
The Earth is currently under the influence of a high speed solar wind regime. The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 430 and 510 km/s. The total magnetic field strength has decreased from around 8 nT to 3 nT over the past 24 hours. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -5 and +5 nT (as recorded by ACE). Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 2-3 (NOAA) and local K index 1-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours.
A recurrent low latitude equatorial coronal hole of negative polarity passed the central meridian two days ago. The effect of the High Speed Stream (HSS) was initially experienced yesterday morning at 04:00 UT when a ramp up in the solar wind speed was experienced, the solar wind speeds are expected to abate later today/tomorrow. A second low latitude is approaching sun centre, and the associated HSS is anticipated to reach Earth around 31-Aug-2019.
