Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels, no significant flares have been recorded. The Sun remained spotless. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The solar wind fluctuated around 400 km/s for the first half of the period and then began increasing, from 00:00 UT October 10, reaching approximately 520 km/s (ACE). The total magnetic field fluctuated between 2 and 11 nT. Bz was mostly positive until 3 UT when a prolonged negative deflection occurred, with a minimum value of -8 nT. Geomagnetic activity was quiet to unsettled for the first part of the period and then active conditions were observed (Kp = 4) due to the extended period of strong negative Bz early on October 10.

Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected with isolated active periods possible over the next 24 hours in response to further enhancements in the solar wind.
