Solar flaring activity was low during last 24 hours, with only B-class flares reported. All flares originated from Catania sunspot groups 33 and 32 (NOAA AR 2859 and 2860). Similar to yesterday, these weak flares were associated with narrow and slow CMEs. We expect such a low level of flaring activity to persist in the coming hours. There were no Earth directed CMEs observed in the available data during last 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels in the past 24 hours, and we expect it will remain so in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is bellow the 1000 pfu threshold. The 24h electron fluence is at normal levels and we expect it will stay so in the coming 24 hours.
The solar wind speed is presently about 370 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is 3 nT. Solar wind originating from small, positive polarity coronal holes (one equatorial and second centered around 30 degrees on the Southern solar hemisphere) which crossed central meridian in the early morning of August 24 can be expected at Earth in the morning of August 27. The arrival of halo CME associated with the filament eruption (from close to the northern polar coronal hole region) can be expected later today or tomorrow morning. During last 24 hours the geomagnetic conditions continued to be at quiet to unsettled level. We expect such a geomagnetic conditions to prevail in the coming hours. However, the expected arrival of the halo CME this evening or tomorrow morning could induce intervals of active geomagnetic conditions.
