Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was at very low levels, with only a small number of B-class flares observed over the last 24 hours. There is a small chance that NOAA Active Regions (AR) 3128 and 3129 (Catania groups 70 and 69 respectively, both with Beta magnetic type) might produce C-class flares in the next 24 hours.

No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections were observed in the last 24 hours.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this threshold during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

During the last 24 hours the Solar Wind (SW) conditions were affected by the expected arrival of a High Speed Stream (HSS), starting from today 05:00 UT. The SW speed increased from 400 to 540 km/s, while the total magnetic field (Bt) varied between 8 and 12 nT, and its north-south component (Bz) was between -13 and 7 nT in the last 24 hours. The interplanetary magnetic field (phi) angle turned from mostly positive values (directed away from the Sun) to negative values, during the last 24 hours. The SW conditions are expected to be dominated by the just-arrived HSS in the next few days.

Geomagnetic conditions reached minor storm levels both globally and locally (NOAA Kp and K Belgium 1-5) over the last 24 hours. Although the conditions are now quiet globally and locally, they are expected to rise to active (NOAA Kp and K Belgium 4) or minor storm levels (NOAA Kp and K Belgium 5) in the next 24 hours.
