The solar activity remained at low levels over the past 24 hours. The two sunspot groups visible on the disc, namely Catania 37/N0AA-AR 2767 (classified as Alpha/Hsx) and N0AA-AR 2768 (now classified as Alpha/Axx, previously Beta/Bxo) have remained stable and did not produce any significant flares. A new plage region is currently visible on the disc at N26E65 and produces minor flares. The observed X-ray flux remained below B-class level. The solar activity is expected to remain at low levels over the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraph imagery.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux fluctuated between moderate and background levels and is expected to be mostly elevated in the next 24 hours due to the influence of the HSS originating from CH 64.
Over the past 24 hours the solar wind parameters as reported by ACE and DSCOVR were at low levels until 04:30 UTC today, when an enhancement of the solar wind parameters began. Further analysis is needed to confirm the origin of the increased activity, which might be due to the arrival of a CIR or a CME. The total interplanetary magnetic field was very weak until 04:30 UTC when it started to increase reaching a maximum value of 12 nT at 11:45 UTC. Simultaneously, the north-south magnetic field component reached a minimum value of -10 nT. The Phi angle was fluctuating between positive and negative orientation. In the past 24 hours the solar wind speed was at nominal levels typical for undisturbed slow solar wind until the beginning of the event at 04:30 UTC today, when the solar wind velocity started to gradually increase reaching a maximum of 390 km/s. The observed event is expected to subside within the next hours, but the solar wind conditions are expected to remain elevated for several days under the influence of a HSS originating from a recurrent positive polarity coronal hole (CH 64), which first crossed the central meridian on July 30th.
The geomagnetic conditions were very quiet until the arrival of an event at 04:30 UTC today, which at present caused unsettled global conditions with Kp-NOAA index equal to 3 and active local condition with K-Dourbes index equal to 4. The geomagnetic conditions are expected to remain unsettled to active for the rest of the day and throughout Aug. 3rd under the influence of the present event and a HSS related to CH 64, which at present continues to partially reside on the central meridian.
