Bulletin

In the past 24 hours, no C flares were observed. The X-ray background increased from about B1 to B3 level. Very low solar activity (no C flares) is expected in the next 24 hours, with a slight chance for a C flare. A filament eruption was observed west of NOAA AR 2636 in ground- based H alpha images and HeII AIA images around 5:20 UT on February 19. There were no signs of an associated CME in the available coronagraph images. The solar wind near Earth is under the influence of a high speed stream by a positive coronal hole. In the past 24 hours, solar wind speed measured by DSCOVR varied between about 480 and 620 km/s, with current values around 555 km/s. The magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) varied between about 2 and 10 nT, with current values around 4 nT. There was a short interval between 21h and 22h UT on February 18 when Bz was below -5 nT, but this did not lead to higher than unsettled levels (K Dourbes = 3). Quiet to active geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes between 1 and 4; NOAA Kp between 1 and 4) were registered in the past 24 hours. Due to the continued influence of the high speed stream, quiet to active geomagnetic levels (K Dourbes < 5) are expected on February 19, 20 and 21, with a slight chance for minor storm episodes (K Dourbes = 5) on February 19.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 021, based on 16 stations.
