Bulletin

The solar activity has been mostly quiet over the past 24 hours with an isolate C2.1-class flare, which was located in Catania sunspot group 88 (NOAA active region 2715). Catania sunspot group 86 and 87 (NOAA active region 2713 and 2714) did not produce any flare. A new sunspot will soon turn around the East limb. This sunspot showed some indication of a coronal dimming associated with a CME. Flaring conditions are expected to increase due to the activity of the Catania sunspot group 88 (NOAA active region 2715) and the new sunspot, and with small chance of a M-class flare.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejection has been observed. The greater than 10 MeV solar protons flux remained at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so.

Solar wind parameters were indicative of a return towards an ambient- background and slow solar wind speed regime. Solar wind speed unsteadily decreased from 430 to near 390 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field is at its nominal condition with the total magnetic field strength below 4 nT and the southward component fluctuating between -2 and +2 nT. Solar wind conditions are expected to return to the slow regime before the end of this 24-hour period. Enhancement of the solar wind conditions are then expected on June 23 due to the arrival of the fast solar wind associated to the north pole coronal hole that has passed the central meridian on the June 20.

Geomagnetic conditions have been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Kp index (NOAA) ranged between 1-2 and local K index 0-2 (Dourbes). The geomagnetic conditions are expected to remained quiet for the next period until June 23 with the arrival of the fast solar wind.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 052, based on 21 stations.
