Solar activity was at low levels. NOAA Active Regions (AR) 2835 produced two low level C-class flares at 1915UT and 2150UT Jul 06. The region has now just rotated over the west limb. NOAA ARs 2839 and 2837 showed signs of decay and were inactive. The small region (Catania 13), which emerged on Jul 06, has also decayed and lost its sunspots. A small region near the west-limb at N28W68 emerged (NOAA AR2840) but did not develop further. Solar activity is expected to be very low to low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares possible and a very slight probability of an M-class flare while AR 2835 remains near the west limb.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected in the available coronagraph imagery.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this level during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.
The Earth is currently under the influence of the slow solar wind, with some possible transient features visible in the magnetic field. The solar wind speed varied between around 320 and 400 km/s. The magnetic field was slightly enhanced with values up to 8nT. The Bz varied between -7 and +5 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun). The solar wind conditions are expected to continue to reflect a slow solar wind regime for the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled (NOAA Kp 1-3 and local K Dourbes 0-3) over the past 24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled over the next 24 hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 023, based on 18 stations.
