Solar flaring activity was low but frequent during the last 24 hours. NOAA Active Region (AR) 3098 (Catania sunspot group 30) produced most of the activity and is expected to remain active in the next 24 hours. Catania sunspot group 33 turned into Earth's view today and its magnetic configuration cannot be estimated yet. However, it produced three C1 flares so far, hence it is expected to produce more flaring activity in the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) were observed in the last 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was above the 1000 pfu alert threshold for most of the time in the past 24 hours, however it shows clear signs of decrease today. In the next 24 hours it is expected to fluctuate around the alert threshold and continue to gradually decrease. The 24h electron fluence was at moderate levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at these levels during the next 24 hours, although with a gradual reduction in value.
The Solar Wind (SW) conditions featured a very gradual return to a typical slow wind regime in the last 24 hours. The SW speed varied between 460 and 560 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field was mostly directed away from the Sun during the last 24 hours. Its strength fluctuated between 4 and 7 nT, while its north-south component ranged between -7 and 6 nT. The SW conditions are expected to continue in the same pattern for the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions reached globally and locally active levels (Kp and K-Belgium 2-4) over the last 24 hours. Unsettled conditions (Kp and K-Belgium 3) are expected for the next 24 hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 096, based on 12 stations.
