Solar activity was at very low levels and is expected to remain so.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery. A filament eruption was observed in the north-east quadrant at 00:00 UT Aug 31 and will be analysed further when the full coronagraph observations become available.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux exceeded the threshold value of 1000 pfu between 13:20 and 22:50 UT Aug 30 and is expected to be at moderate to high levels over the next days due to the elevated solar wind conditions.
The solar wind speed fluctuated around 470 km/s for the majority of the period and then began to increase from 06:50 UT Aug 31, reaching over 600 km/s at 08:40 UT. The total magnetic field varied between 2 and 9 nT. Bz was predominantly negative reaching a minimum value of -7 nT. The direction of the interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was mostly directed away from the Sun (positive sector). The solar wind conditions are expected to become further enhanced over the next 24 hours due to the high-speed stream from the recurrent coronal hole that crossed central meridian on August 28.
Geomagnetic conditions were at quiet to minor storm level (K Dourbes and NOAA Kp recorded values of 1-4 and 1-5, respectively). Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be unsettled to active in the next 24 hours with a possibility of minor geomagnetic storm level again being reached.
