A C1.4 class flare took place on Aug 13 20:59UT, originating from the plage region of what was Catania region 29. Former region NOAA 2855 has turned into a plage. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels, with a low possibility of C-class flares.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were confirmed in the available coronagraphic imagery.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold, while the 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours. Over the next 24 hours they are expected to remain at those levels.
Over the past 24 hours the solar wind speed further decreased overall, from 470 down to 330 km/s. The total magnetic field strength had values between 1 and 6 nT, while its Bz component varied between -4 and 3 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly on the positive sector (directed away from the Sun). Over the next 24 hours, solar wind conditions are expected to remain at about these levels, with a chance of enhancement from the high speed steam associated with the extension of the positive northern coronal hole.
Geomagnetic conditions were at quiet to unsettled levels (NOAA Kp 1-2 and K Dourbes 0-3) over the past 24 hours. Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.
