Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with several C-class flares recorded. The largest flare was a C5.7 flare (SIDC Flare 7375), peaking at 18:32 UTC on April 07, associated with SIDC Sunspot Group 838 (NOAA Active Region 4409; magnetic type beta-gamma). There are currently six numbered active regions on the visible solar disk. SIDC Sunspot Groups 842 (NOAA Active Region 4414; magnetic type alpha) and 820 (NOAA Active Region 4415; magnetic type alpha) recently rotated onto the visible disk. SIDC Sunspot Group 842 produced low flaring activity, while SIDC Sunspot Group 820 remained quiet. SIDC Sunspot Group 836 (NOAA Active Region 4405) is approaching the west limb. The remaining active regions are relatively simple (magnetic type alpha or beta) and did not produce any significant flaring activity. Solar flaring activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a chance for M-class flares.
No Earth-directed CMEs have been detected in the available coronagraph imagery over the past 24 hours.
Over the past 24 hours, solar wind parameters (ACE and DSCOVR) reflected the near slow solar wind regime. The solar wind speed ranged between 380 km/s and 450 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field remained weak, below 5 nT. Slow solar wind conditions are expected over the next day. From late on April 9, solar wind parameters may become slightly elevated due to the possible arrival of a high-speed stream from a positive polarity coronal hole (SIDC Coronal Hole 154).
Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled both globally and locally over Belgium (Kp 1 to 3 and K-Bel 1 to 3). Mostly quiet conditions are expected over the next 24 hours. From late on April 9, active conditions are expected, with a possible isolated minor to moderate storm interval in response to the arrival of the high-speed stream from a positive polarity coronal hole (SIDC Coronal Hole 154).
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux, as measured by GOES-18, was below the 10pfu threshold level over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-19, exceeded the 1000 pfu alert threshold over the past 24 hours, with a peak value of 15045 pfu. It is expected to remain above the alert threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24-hour electron fluence was at high levels during the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at moderate to high levels over the next 24 hours.
