Bulletin

Solar activity was very low in the past 24 hours. Only one B1.3 flare was observed yesterday 18-Aug-2016 (peaking at 14:14 UT). Three additional active regions are presently observed on the visible side of the solar disc. Their photospheric magnetic field configuration is simple (beta and alpha configuration). No Earth-directed CMEs were observed. Solar proton flux intensity is expected to lie within the background levels. Solar activity is expected to be low with small probability for C-class flares. Solar wind speed measured by DSCOVR varied between 390 and 350 km/s, while the magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (Bt) fluctuated between 4 and 6 nT. Geomagnetic conditions have been quiet in the past 24 hours (K Dourbes between 1 and 3; NOAA Kp between 1 and 2). Geomagnetic activity is expected to continue at very low levels today (19-08-2016). Active to minor geomagnetic storm conditions (K Dourbes = 3-4) are possible from 20-Aug-2016 due to the expected arrival of a high speed stream associated with a coronal hole.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 051, based on 19 stations.
