Bulletin

There are still no numbered active regions on the visible side of the Sun and the solar activity remains to be on the extremely low level (no reported flares). We do not expect change in the level of the solar activity in the coming hours. Very faint partial halo CME (angular width of about 170 degrees), was first time seen by SOHO/LASCO C2 at about 22:00 UT on May 13. From the presently available observations it seems that the CME might be associated with the faint filament eruption from the south solar hemisphere. This will be confirmed when more data becomes available. The bulk of the CME mass was directed southward of the Sun-Earth line. If the eruption indeed had origin on the visible side of the Sun (to be confirmed) we could expect the glancing blow from the associated CME-driven shock wave. The solar wind speed is presently about 320 km/s, and slowly increasing. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is about 9 nT. At about 10 UT today, the increase of the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude (with oscillations of the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field) simultaneously with the decrease of density and slow increase of the solar wind speed and temperature, was observed. All this indicates possible arrival of the fast solar wind associated with extended equatorial coronal hole. The geomagnetic conditions are presently quiet. The unsettled to active geomagnetic conditions are expected in the coming hours. However, isolated interval of the minor storm conditions (Kp=5) is also possible.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 26 stations.
