Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. Catania sunspot group 86 & 88 (NOAA active region 2713 and 2715) produced few B-class flares. Flaring conditions are expected to remain quiet.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejection has been observed. The greater than 10 MeV solar protons flux remained at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so.

Solar wind ambient environment was at the background and slow solar wind speed regime until today Jun 23 around 00:00 UT. As it was expected, the solar wind conditions have enhanced due to the arrival of the solar wind associated to the north pole coronal hole that has passed the central meridian on the June 20. The solar wind speed increased from about 320 to near 450 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field strength has somewhat slowly increased to reach 15.7 nT and the southward component reached -15.0 nT on Jun 23 at 11:46 UT. The solar wind is expected to increase further and the global enhanced solar wind conditions are expected to persist within the next 24-hour period and until while under the influence of the HSS associated with the coronal hole.

The geomagnetic conditions have been quiet until Jun 23 at 03:00 am. Then it became active due to the arrival of the fast solar wind with Kp-index = 4 (NOAA) at 12:00 UT and K-index=4 (Dourbes) at 11:00 UT on Jun 18. Due to the ongoing enhancement of the solar wind, unsettled to active geomagnetic conditions are expected for the next forecasting period. Isolated minor geomagnetic storms cannot be excluded, especially if Bz component remains negative for long period of time.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 040, based on 22 stations.
