Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. Early on 1 August, a small sunspot group developed in the faculae field located at S08E40 (06UT). It has no NOAA or Catania number yet. Another, smaller, faculae field near N11W65 is currently spotless, but contained a small spot/pore late on 31 July. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed in available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

Solar wind remained somewhat disturbed with wind speeds between 300 and 340 km/s (DSCOVR). A more pronounced speed increase set in starting around 08UT (ACE), with current speeds near 400 km/s. Bz varied mostly between -5 and +8 nT throughout the period. The direction of the interplanetary magnetic field slowly undulated between "towards" and "away from" the Sun. Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions were observed.

Geomagnetic activity is expected to continue at quiet to unsettled levels.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 012, based on 22 stations.
