Solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. There are no significant Active Regions on the solar disk. Flaring conditions are expected to remain quiet with a very small chance of C-class flares.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejection has been observed. The greater than 10 MeV solar protons flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and are expected to remain so.
The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 500 and 700 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 5 to 10 nT. The Bz component was largely positive, fluctuating between -5 and +10 nT.
The elevated solar wind speeds are a consequence of a large Coronal Hole (which reached the central meridian on December 04). The enhanced solar wind conditions are expected to persist in the following days as long as Earth remains under the influence of the solar wind associated with the coronal hole.
Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-4 (NOAA) and local K index 1-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. The conditions are expected to remain the same in response to the enhanced interplanetary magnetic field, short periods of active conditions cannot be fully excluded, especially if there is a prolonged period of southward directed Bz component.
