Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The dynamic, 20-degrees long filament located near N15W40 erupted between 20:00UT (23 February) and 01:00UT (24 February), ejecting mostly to the north and west. No x-ray flare was associated with this event, but some coronal dimming to the northeast of the filament was observed in extreme ultraviolet imagery (SDO/AIA 193). LASCO/C2 coronagraphic imagery showed a coronal mass ejection (CME) becoming first visible at 01:48UT. Preliminary analysis of currently available CACTus imagery gives a plane-of-the-sky speed of about 310 km/s, with no obvious earth-directed component. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values. A negative polarity equatorial coronal hole (CH) is transiting the central meridian.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

Solar wind speed declined further from 375 to 325 km/s (DSCOVR). Bz varied between -3 and +3 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field was directed away from the Sun (positive sector). Geomagnetic activity was at quiet levels, with unsettled episodes at Dourbes during the 12-15UT interval and near the end of the period.

Mostly quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected until the arrival of the co-rotating interaction region and high speed stream from the negative polarity CH, currently expected for 26 February. This may result in minor geomagnetic storming.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 22 stations.
