Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The X-ray flux remains below B-level. From the two regions that showed some mild activity yesterday, one is now associated with a sunspot (Catania sunspot group 9, NOAA 2734) and produced small A-class flares. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels with a small chance of C-class flare.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejection has been observed. The greater than 10 MeV solar protons flux remained at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so.

The solar wind parameters are currently slightly enhanced due to several small patchy equatorial coronal holes (negative polarity) located on the East hemisphere on Geo-effective area of the Sun. During the last 24-hour, the solar wind speed globally increased from about 350 km/h to 500 km/h, and the total interplanetary magnetic field strength also showed a slow increased from about 5 nT to 10 nT. The Bz component fluctuated between -8.5 nT and 8.5 nT. The solar wind parameters are expected to remain slightly enhanced due to those patchy equatorial coronal holes for the following days.

The geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettle over the past 24 hours, with K-index (Dourbes) ranging from 1 and 2, and Kp (NOAA) ranging from 1 and 3. In response to the slightly enhanced interplanetary magnetic field due to the small patchy equatorial coronal holes and possible prolonged period of southward directed Bz component, the geomagnetic conditions are expected to remain quiet to unsettle, short period of minor storm is possible but not likely.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 016, based on 11 stations.
