Solar activity has been very low. No flares, no Earth directed coronal mass ejections (CME) have been observed. Cactus detected only few slow narrow and backsided CMEs over the past 24 hours. Active Region (AR) NOAA 2592 (Macintosh class:Bxo; Mag. type:Beta) has shown low levels of activity. Another presently observed on the solar disk NOAA AR 2591 has simple magnetic configuration and the probability to produce a flare is small. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain very low over the next 24 hours with a probability of B-class flares only.
The variations of the solar wind parameters were very weak. The Solar wind speed measured by DSCOVR and ACE fluctuated around 330 km/s. The magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (Bt) remained steady with the value around 6 nT. The Bz component fluctuated between +5 and -4 nT. Geomagnetic conditions have been very quiet in the past 24 hours (K Dourbes between 1 and 2; NOAA Kp between 1 and 2). Geomagnetic activity is expected to continue at low levels today (17-Aug-2016) and tomorrow (18-Aug-2016). Active to minor geomagnetic storm conditions (Kp NOAA between 3 and 4) are possible from 19-Aug-2016 as a possible response to the negative polarity coronal hole moving into a potentially geoeffective position.
