No C flares were observed in the past 24 hours. No C flares are expected in the next 24 hours. DSCOVR registered a reverse shock in the solar wind around 19:05 UT on December 31, when the solar wind speed jumped from about 500 to 560 km/s while the magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) fell from about 14 to 7 nT. This reverse shock probably marked the end of a Co- rotating Interaction Region and the start of the associated high speed stream from a positive coronal hole. Current solar wind speed is around 520 km/s and current IMF around 4 nT. Quiet to active geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes between 2 and 4; NOAA Kp between 2 and 4) were registered in the past 24 hours. Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic levels (K Dourbes < 4) are expected on January 1, 2 and 3, with a chance for active intervals (K Dourbes = 4).
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 012, based on 09 stations.
