Bulletin

Solar activity was very low. NOAA 2629 was responsible for the flurry of B-class flares observed, including a B8 flare peaking at 21:28UT - the strongest event of the period. A small filament eruption occurred in between NOAA 2628 and NOAA 2627 around 07:00UT. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed in available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10MeV proton flux was at nominal levels.

Mostly quiet flaring conditions are expected, with a chance on a C-class event in particular from NOAA 2629.

Solar wind speed was steady between 360 and 330 km/s (DSCOVR) until 07:12UT when a small shock was observed in the solar wind. Wind speed suddenly increased from 335 km/s to values around 375 km/s. Density doubled from 8 to 16 particles per cm3, and magnetic field strength jumped from 6 to 10 nT. Bz fluctuated between -8 and +11 nT from 08UT onwards, ending the period at -8 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field was mostly directed away from the Sun. The origin of the small shock is currently being researched.

The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels. It is expected to remain so until the arrival of the co-rotating interaction region (CIR) and associated high speed stream (HSS) from the equatorial coronal hole later today or tomorrow. This may result in active to minor storming episodes.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 038, based on 14 stations.
