Bulletin

Catania group 29 (NOAA 2661) produced a C8 flare peaking at 17:57UT and several other smaller flares. The region seems to consolidate towards a bipolar structure and further flaring at C level is expected with also a slight change for an M flare. No Earth direct CMEs have been observed in coronagraph data. Proton flux levels are at background values and expected to remain so.

Nominal Solar wind conditions were reported with Solar wind speed 350-370 km/s and total magnetic field under 3nT up till around 7:30UT when total magnetic field became enhanced to over 10nT with also a slight increase in solar wind speed to around 400 km/s. The perturbation also appears associated with a shift of the magnetic field phi angle into the outward magnetic field sector. Currently strong southward Bz with values of -13nT is being recorded. The perturbations could possibly be associated to another small and not very well defined isolated equatorial coronal hole. Perturbed Solar wind conditions could persist associated to the observed Solar wind transient but in general a return to nominal Solar wind conditions is expected over the next days. Geomagnetic conditions were quiet (local K Dourbes 0-2, NOAA Kp 0-2) and are expected to remain so over the next days, with initially some unsettled or active periods possible associated with the recorded Solar wind transient.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 026, based on 15 stations.
