Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The Sun was spotless. A narrow coronal mass ejection (CME) was observed in STEREO-A/COR2 coronagraphic imagery starting at 05UT on 29 October. Standing-by further imagery to determine its potential geo-effectiveness. A small negative polarity coronal hole (CH) has transited the Central Meridian, substantially decreasing in size over the last 24 hours. Both the CME and the change in CH size may be related to some mild magnetic reconnection in the southern hemisphere (central portion) late on 28 October.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

Solar wind speed varied between 300 and 340 km/s (DSCOVR). Bz varied mostly between -2 and +4 nT. Around 08UT, the direction of the interplanetary magnetic field turned from mostly away to towards the Sun. Quiet geomagnetic conditions were observed.

Quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected to continue until the arrival of the wind stream associated with the small equatorial CH on 30 or 31 October. This may result in unsettled geomagnetic conditions, with an isolated active episode possible.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 10 stations.
