Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels, no significant flares have been recorded. The Sun remained spotless. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The solar wind speed gradually increased from approximately 350 km/s to 400 km/s (ACE), with some enhancements in the last part of the period. The direction of the interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was predominantly directed away from the Sun (positive sector), but switched to the negative sector from 08:00 UT October 8. Bz varied between -5 and +4 nT. Geomagnetic activity was at quiet to unsettled levels, with the Kp index (NOAA) and the local k index (Dourbes) recording values of 1-2 and 1-3, respectively.

Quiet conditions are expected to continue over the next 48 hours with possible isolated unsettled periods, due to the weak influence a negative polarity coronal hole.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 14 stations.
