Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was at very low levels. Active Region (AR) 2762 produced a B-flare at 14:36 on May 01. ARs 2760, 2762 and 2763 have now all decayed into plage regions. Solar flaring activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery in the last 24 hours.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to stay at nominal levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was between nominal and moderate levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to be at nominal to moderate levels over the next 24 hours.

The solar wind speed near Earth oscillated around 300 km/s for most of the period, with a jump in the wind speed up to 470 km/s (DSCOVR) observed at 07:30 May 02, after which the speed quickly returned to nominal values around 320 km/s. The total magnetic field was unremarkable, varying between 1 and 8 nT. Bz reached a minimum of -6 nT. The Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) phi angle was predominantly in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun), with some short deviations into the positive sector. Predominantly background solar wind conditions are expected for May 02 - 04. The solar wind associated with the positive polarity coronal hole, that transited the central meridian on May 01, is predicted to influence Earth from late on May 04.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled (local K Dourbes and NOAA Kp recorded values between 0-3 and 0-2, respectively). Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions are expected for May 02 – 04.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 23 stations.
