Bulletin

Solar activity was very low over the past 24 hours. No significant flares have been recorded. The solar disk is currently spotless. Solar activity is expected to be very low over the next 24 hours.

No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected in the available coronagraphic imagery. A filament stretching across the central meridian in the southern hemisphere can be seen in SDO/AIA 193 to begin to lift off slowly from around 07UT. An analysis of any possible associated CME will be made when coronagraph data become available.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this level during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

The solar wind speed has increased from 310 to 460 km/s over the past 24 hours. The Bz component was mostly positive, fluctuating between -6 and +12 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly in the positive sector (directed away from the Sun). The solar wind speed and interplanetary magnetic field are expected to be enhanced on May 03 and 04, due to the effect from the high-speed stream associated with the positive polarity coronal hole in the southern hemisphere, which crossed the central meridian on April 30.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled (NOAA Kp 1-2 and local K Dourbes 1-3) over the past 24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to active over the next 24 hours due to the influence of the expected high-speed stream.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 21 stations.
