Bulletin

Solar activity was at low levels during the last 24 hours. NOAA Active Region (AR) 2927 produced the only flare activity above B-class level (a C1 today at 08:59 UT). NOAA ARs 2924 and 2925 did not produce any noticeable activity and continued to decay. For the next 24 hours an isolated C-class flare is probable, most likely from NOAA AR 2927.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraph data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this threshold during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

The solar wind parameters (as measured by DSCOVR and ACE) are gradually returning to a typical slow solar wind scheme, following the disturbance due to the arrival of a High Speed Stream (HSS) on 17 UT Jan 08. The solar wind speed dropped gradually from 450 to 380 km/s over the last 24 hours. The total magnetic field (Bt) ranged from 1 to 6 nT and its Bz component varied between -4 and 3 nT, during the past 24 hours. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun). The solar wind conditions are expected to gradually return to a typical slow wind regime during the next 24 hours.

Geomagnetic conditions were globally quiet (NOAA Kp 1-2) and locally quiet to moderate (K BEL index 0-3). Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet for the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 051, based on 10 stations.
