Bulletin

The solar activity was low over the past 24 hours. N0AA-AR 2772 (N18W37, Bxo/Beta) was associated with a sunspot and named. The X-ray flux was low and reached B-class level. A region is about to rotate on the visible side of the disk. For the next 24 hours the solar activity is expected to remain low.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so over the next 24 hours.

The solar wind speed near Earth had an average of 350 km/s (DSCOVR). The polarity of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) was predominantly oriented away the Sun (phi angle in the positive sector). Bz fluctuated between -9 and +5 nT. The magnitude of the magnetic field varied between 2 and 11 nT. A negative polarity Coronal Hole (CH) is crossing Central Meridian (CM). Its high speed stream could be expected for Aug 21. Over the next 24 hours, the combined effects of the wind associated with the CME on Aug 16 and the CH at CM on Aug 17 can be anticipated to have an impact.

The geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled. The values registered for the past 24 hours were 0-3 for K Dourbes and 1-3 for NOAA Kp. Unsettled to active conditions, with a chance of a minor storm, are expected for the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 014, based on 21 stations.
