Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was low but frequent during the last 24 hours with 16 C-class flares detected. NOAA Active Region (AR) 2962 was the most active with seven C-class flares. Catania groups 44 and 50 produced four C-class flares each. NOAA AR 2960 (Catania group 51) generated the remaining one C-class flare. More C-class flares are expected from the most productive AR (namely NOAA AR 2962, Catania group 44, and Catania group 51) for the next 24 hours.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) have been observed in the available coronagraph data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this threshold during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

The Solar Wind (SW) conditions (as measured by the DSCOVR and ACE satellites) are affected by the arrival of a High Speed Stream (HSS). The SW speed increased to around 550 km/s during the last 24 hours. The total magnetic field (Btot) first increased to 13 nT but has now dropped to 5 nT. Its Bz component fluctuated between -12 and 6 nT during the period of moderate Btot, but has now dropped to close to zero. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly negative (directed towards the Sun) during the last 24 hours. The SW conditions are expected to remain under the influence of the HSS for the next 24 hours.

Geomagnetic conditions reached minor storm levels both globally and locally (NOAA Kp and K BEL indeces 2-5) during the last 24 hours because of the arrival of a HSS. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be moderate for the next 24 hours due to the effects of the HSS.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 079, based on 16 stations.
