This document describes what we do with contributions made on SpaceWeatherLive and what data we collect, how we use it and how we protect it.
The submitted observations will be made publicly available on SpaceWeatherLive for any user all over the world. Observations can be shown on the recent observations list as well as displayed in the space weather archive at SpaceWeatherLive, in news items and on social media. Therefore by submitting observations to SpaceWeatherLive, you grant us the permission to use your observations, trusting us to be responsible with your data. However, you give us this permission non-exclusively, meaning that yourself still own your contribution. We ask you to grant us these broad permissions, because they allow us to change the legal details by which we keep the data available; this may be necessary because the legal environment can change. You must not contribute observations to SpaceWeatherLive that you do not own.
SpaceWeatherLive may share your observations with scientific researchers for citizen science projects. Researchers can use, modify and use it in their research and papers but must always include the ownership.
Upon submission, each contribution will be checked for completeness by a moderator or administrator and can be altered by them without prior notification. Photo quality might reduce a bit due to compression for use on the site and/or app for fast loading. Observations that are not about the aurora will be removed.
If, for whatever reason, you want your observation to be removed, use the contact form or contact SpaceWeatherLive through our social media channels. Upon messaging us, please state your name and the submission that you want to see deleted.
By adding observations you also agree to our Privacy policy
A lot of people come to SpaceWeatherLive to follow the Solar activity or if there is a chance to see the aurora, but with more traffic comes higher costs to keep the servers online. If you like SpaceWeatherLive and want to support the project you can choose a subscription for an ad-free site or consider a donation. With your help we can keep SpaceWeatherLive online!
