Coronal mass ejection impact, Severe G4 geomagnetic storm possible!

Impact! The first of a total of up to six coronal mass ejections has now arrived at the DSCOVR satellite and will arrive at Earth within the next 30 minutes.

As expected thanks to heads up information from STEREO Ahead, the total interplanetary magnetic field strength (Bt) has sharply increased to values over 40nT and the Bz has already dipped as low as -28nT. This combined with an increase in the solar wind speed to about 700km/s means significant geomagnetic storm conditions reaching the severe G4 level (Kp8) are possible today with aurora displays visible from large parts of central Europe if these conditions persist in the coming hours!
