Bulletin

Three B-class flares were recorded over the period. The strongest event was a B4.6 flare peaking at 17:20UT (27 May) and produced by NOAA 2548. The trailing portion of this sunspot group decayed considerably. A B3.9 flare peaking at 16:45UT (27 May) was produced by an active region just behind the northeast limb. Small sunspot group Catania 83 (S15E30) produced the other B-class event at the end of the period (B3.5 peaking at 12:05UT). No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed.

There's a chance on an isolated C-class flare.

Earth remained under the influence of a coronal hole (CH) high speed stream (HSS). Solar wind speed increased from about 350 km/s near 16:00UT to values around 550 km/s near 07:00UT. The solar wind speed is currently fluctuating between 450 and 550 km/s. Bz oscillated mostly between -9 and +7 nT, with weakening amplitudes near the end of the period. The interplanetary magnetic field was mostly directed towards the Sun. Mostly quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions were observed, with an active episode during the 09UT-interval.

Quiet to active geomagnetic conditions are expected as Earth remains under the influence of the CH HSS. An intensification is expected with the arrival of the HSS from the northern CH later today or tomorrow. There's a small chance on an isolated minor storming episode.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 033, based on 18 stations.
