The increase of the solar activity in the last 24 hours was mainly due to flaring from the Catania sunspot group 81 (NOAA AR 2628) which produced 9 B-class and 5 C-class flares. The Catania sunspot group 80 (NOAA AR 2627) also produced several B-class flares. The strongest reported flare was compact and confined C9.3 flare originating from the Catania sunspot group 81 (NOAA AR 2628), which peaked at 07:14 UT on January 21. In the coming hours we can expect B-class and C-class flares, in particular from the Catania sunspot group 81 (NOAA AR 2628). No Earth directed CMEs were observed during last 24 hours.
The solar wind speed amounts 480 km/s, and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is about 5nT. Presently, the geomagnetic conditions are quiet to unsettled and we expect them to remain so in the coming hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 074, based on 23 stations.
