Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed. A weak CME visible between 18 and 24UT on 2 September (LASCO) proved to be directed away from Earth based on STEREO-A coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels. A small negative polarity coronal hole is about to start its transit of the Central Meridian.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

Solar wind speed varied between 310 and 360 km/s, ending the period near 330 km/s (DSCOVR). Bz varied mostly between -5 and +4 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field was initially directed towards the Sun, but moved to a more variable mode late on 2 September. Quiet geomagnetic conditions were observed.

Quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected to continue, with a chance on an isolated unsettled episode.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 19 stations.
