Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. Small sunspot region NOAA 2747 developed during the period (N06E10; McIntosh class: Axx; MtWilson class: Alpha), but had almost decayed by noon on 7 August. No earth- directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values. An irregular shaped negative polarity coronal hole is transiting the central meridian.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The earth environment remained under the influence of the high-speed stream (HSS) of the positive polarity coronal hole. Solar wind speed declined from values near 650 km/s to about 500 km/s by the end of the period (ACE). Bz varied between -4 and + 3 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was mostly directed away from the Sun (positive sector).

Geomagnetic activity was at quiet to unsettled levels, and is expected to continue under the waning influence of the HSS.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 011, based on 14 stations.
