Bulletin

Solar activity is low with only two low B-class flares reported in the last 24 hours. The stronger, B 1.5 flare peaked at 10:20 UT this morning. From the available observations it seems that it originated from the Catania sunspot group 44 (NOAA AR region 2775) which is presently situated at the West solar limb and marked yesterday as spotless. The Catania sunspot group 45, which rotated on the visible side of the Sun yesterday, has presently beta configuration of its photospheric magnetic field and could be the source of more B-class flares and possibly, but not very probably, also an isolated low C-class flares. The available coronagraph data do not show any possibly Earth directed CMEs. During the last 24 hours the proton flux levels remain at the background values.

The in situ observations show simultaneous increase of the solar wind speed, density, temperature and interplanetary magnetic field magnitude starting from 15:00 UT on October 15. This could be signatures or either faint ICME (of presently unclear Solar counterpart) or the corotating interaction region. More will be reported when larger interval of data will be available. Presently the solar wind speed is about 310 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is about 4 nT. The geomagnetic conditions are quiet, and we expect quiet to possibly unsettled geomagnetic conditions in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 013, based on 12 stations.
