Bulletin

Solar activity is low. Two C1.1 flares were observed from newly appeared active region (NOAA AR 2578) peaked at 19:36 UT and 23:17 UT yesterday (14-Aug-2016). Three (3) additional active regions are presently observed on the visible side of the solar disc. Their photospheric magnetic field configuration is simple (beta and alpha configuration). One narrow slow CME coming from the East limb was detected by CACTUS at 16:12 yesterday (14-Aug-2016). No geoeffective effects are expected. The high speed stream originated from a low latitude coronal hole has not interacted with Earth geomagnetic field, in accordance to the last release of WSA-Enlil predictions. Solar proton flux intensity is expected to lie within the background levels. Solar activity is expected to be low with small probability for C-class flares.

Solar wind speed continued to decline till 320 km/s as observed around 12:00 UT today (15-Aug-2016). The magnetic field intensity (Bt) remained below 6 nT. The Bz component was mostly positive or neutral. The local K index at Dourbes was ranged between 1 and 3 (planetary Kp index was ranged between 1 and 2) during last 24 hours. The solar wind parameters are expected to be low and geomagnetic field to remain quiet and undisturbed while the high speed stream coming from the low latitude coronal hole seems to pass south of the ecliptic without interacting with Earth’s geomagnetic field.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 063, based on 26 stations.
